T-shirt styles

Choosing the right T-shirts is almost as important as the artwork to be printed on them.
Perhaps you just want to trial this new media of printing your art on T-shirts and you don’t want to invest too much to begin with.
In that case, the basic T-shirt options may be satisfactory. By far our most popular selling T-shirt is the Gildan softstyle. It balances quality and value better than any other and is perfect for everyday wear. Similar to this is the Iconic T-shirt, a light weight T-shirt ideal for hot summer days or wearing under clothes.
A step up in quality on both these T-shirts is the premium T-shirt. Because it’s thicker and ringspun cotton it feels like it is better quality. The shape is classic T-shirt.
Similar quality to this is Fine Jersey by American Apparel. It’s slightly thinner but the cut is more unique. This could complement your artwork as the T-shirt is not as ubiquitous as other well known brands like Gildan and Fruit of the Loom.
Next Level and Tee Jays T-shirts are top quality and would really work well for higher end products from brands with ambition.

Personalised T-shirts for 2020

Now we’re in the season for T-shirts how about making some great changes to your wardrobe?
This year Teepig can offer you some amazing choices at better prices than any boutique. You can’t get more original than wearing your own design.
This post is written by me, the person who prints and wears these T-shirts. I’ll be giving you my own personal critique of each of my favourite T-shirts I like to put on. These are the best choices in personalised T-shirts for 2020.

Gildan Softstyle

The Gildan Sofstyle is definitely punching above its weight when you consider the quality you get for the price. Out of the following T-shirts this one is best value for money. It’s super comfortable because of the ringspun cotton and on the heather varieties the polyester. The softstyle not only boasts the comfort but also the fit. These T-shirts have a fit perfect for the athletic to average body shapes, what they call eurofit, or semi-fitted. This also means they are slightly on the smaller size, so, for example, if you’re unsure about going for a medium or a large – go for the large.

At 145 gsm it is lightweight but doesn’t feel too light. The colour choices are huge for this style too.
The only major drawback to the Gildan softstyle is it does shrink a little at a 40 degree wash, this coupled with the smaller sizes means if you put on a few pounds it might show.

Premium

Both Fruit of the Loom and Gildan do great quality premium T-shirts. The premium T-shirt has probably more longevity than the softstyle. Firstly its thicker cotton at 185-195 gsm, it feels good quality, especially as it’s also ringspun cotton. Another benefit is it handles better after hotter washes, it doesn’t shrink. Premium T-shirts are more of the classic shape, they hug the arms and the body less but still hold an attractive shape. This T-shirt is the ‘everyman’, ideal for those who don’t really care about showing off their muscles.
Not as many colours in this range but still it covers all bases. The premium T-shirt is ideal for personalisation for gifts, funny T-shirts or workwear.

American Apparel Fine Jersey

A very decent T-shirt, always a joy to put on. The American Apparel Fine Jersey T-shirt boasts quality for sure. The colour range is extensive. The shape is not hugging but hangs nicely at a good length. It feels quite light at 146 gsm but also feels like you’re wearing something substantial. A good quality everyday T-shirt.

Next Level Crew Neck

The Next Level T-shirt is my personal favourite right now. I like it especially because of the fit. It hugs my arms but isn’t too tight on the body. Also it hangs just right and is a perfect length. Similar in weight and feel to the American Apparel but softer like the Gildan Softstyle. Colours for this range cover all bases too. This is a great choice for personalising your own T-shirt or for a gift for someone close to you. Also on the shortlist for fashion brands.

Tee Jays Interlocking

Out on its own for its super quality is the Tee Jays Interlocking T-shirt. This one would definitely be my favourite if I hit the gym a little more. Effectively a muscle-fit T-shirt it hugs the body nicely and is a thick, comfortable feel. This is the T-shirt of choice for brands with ambition and for the fashion conscious. Even though it is the most expensive T-shirt of the group I believe it is still great value for its pure quality. Look out for Tee Jays clothing as it is some of the finest you’ll find on the market.

In Summary, you won’t be disappointed with any of these T-shirts for printing your own design.
The Gildan Softstyle is an ideal low cost gift. To print one side full colour on white is only £11. This would also be a good choice for promotional T-shirts or light work T-shirts.
The premium is a good quality all rounder, good for both work, promotional, gifts and your own design and for all shapes and sizes.
The American Apparel is the middle ground between the premium and the Next Level T-shirt.
The Next Level T-shirt is a great choice for the more fashion oriented. It is casual but modern. Ideal for band merchandise and cool brands.
Custom Tee Jays Interlocking T-shirt is the perfect gift for men and women with style. Brands that want to set themselves apart should consider this style.

We’re Still Printing

It’s 1st April and times are very strange. The good news is we’re still printing!

The outbreak of COVID-19 has made the economy almost grind to a halt. Because Teepig is online we can still maintain our service. The government’s guidelines are strictly observed while we continue our operation. Nothing is more of a priority than health. This means when we print T-shirts, sweaters and hoodies for online orders the workshop is in a high standard of hygiene.

As serious as the situation is we must attempt to continue as normal as we can while respecting the safe distance guidelines and sanitary advice.
You can still buy birthday gifts for your friends and loved ones. A great gift idea is a personalised T-shirt. The best part is you can design it yourself and you don’t have to leave your home. First of all, you would have to choose the appropriate garment. To do this you go to our online design page and select the right T-shirt, hoodie or sweater. For example, Mantis, a UK company has produced some of the best clothing available on the market. Their Superstar range of T-shirt and hoodies have an incredibly soft touch. This is because of the ‘peaching’ applied to the fabric. Peaching leaves it with a suede or moleskin softness. Personally if I can recommend a hoodie it will be the superstar by Mantis.
As of writing this post these styles are not currently in our store for online design. Nevertheless, contact us if you want these styles personalised with your brand or business logo.

Recently we have supplied two local start up businesses with their T-shirts and hoodies. Fill Good Pantry in Portishead is a zero waste shop geared for you to bring your own containers to purchase foodstuff. CBD Vitality also opted for organic t-shirts and hoodies. Swimming Club Polo and T shirts

Swimming Club Polo Shirts

Just completed: The Portishead Amateur Swimming Club polo and T-shirts.

Not all of our orders come from online. As we are based in Portishead we also serve the town and wider community for garment printing.
The Portishead Amateur Swimming Club got in contact about new polos for the teachers and new T-shirts for the volunteers.
The polo shirts required embroidering although the artwork on the previous shirts only existed on the shirts! That means the logo had to be redrawn.
You see, that’s another service Teepig offers. We can design or edit new or existing artwork for your club attire.

Sometimes doing things the old fashioned way is the only way to get exactly what you want. Even though our online designer can be quick and easy to use, with plenty of great garments to choose from, sometimes you need a little advice on what’s best.

Choosing the right polo shirt.

In this case, someone from the club contacted us to ask what polos would be ideal for embroidering on the front and printing on the back. We offered the Gildan Dryblend for its sweat-wicking properties. Standing on the side of the pool can be hot work so a polo that helps you keep cooler would certainly top the pile.
We embroidered the left breast logo and printed ‘Swimming Teacher’ on the back using the sublimation process. The yellow text contrasts very nicely with the black of the shirt. Even the colours of the embroidery was changed slightly from the previous shirts for aesthetic purposes.
The colour chosen for the volunteer T-shirts was light blue. The style was the Gildan premium T-shirt. A decent quality tee that isn’t too thin nor too thick.

The Swimming Club polo and T-shirts were ready within the week!

Printwear & Promotion Trade Show

We made the trip to the Birmingham NEC this week for the annual Printwear & Promotion trade show.

All of our favourite brands and suppliers were there to exhibit the latest products in the industry. Sustainability was the theme of this year’s show. This means brands are producing clothing as ethically as possible with as little negative effect on the environment as possible. Above all, garment quality does not suffer. Contrarily, it seems to be improving.
No company is leading the charge more than Mantis. All of their styles, adult, child and baby, have made the switch to ethically sourced and sustainable materials.

Why we attend

The aim of trade shows is for brands and suppliers to exhibit their products to new customers and to exhibit new products to existing customers.
Since last year’s visit in 2019 Teepig have started offering sublimation printed garments which has very effectively aided what we can offer our customers. We are always looking to improve and add better services to give you exactly what you want.
After this recent visit to the Printwear and Promotion trade show we have come away with a far greater knowledge of garment types and styles. This information we can pass on to you too help you select the best brands and styles for your customised garments.

Tee Jays was a big player this year. In fact several other stands were using Tee Jays T-shirts in their demonstrations. The Danish company produces higher end styles. For example T-shirt, polos, hoodies, soft shell jackets and coats. Tee Jays are also making the switch to organic this year and their new colour ways are already organic certified.
We are adding more Tee Jays styles to our designer page. This is the choice brand for best quality, whether it’s to decorate with your own brand or logo or as a special gift.

Next Level is another impressive brand which we are adding to our designer. Based in LA, Next Level offer something slightly different. Keep an eye out for their ‘sueded’ range. The styles have peached fabric making it super soft to the touch.
